The upcoming Body Mapping Lab is a site responsive program in embodied research that gets participants to explore the relation between the body and space, by considering modes of knowledge production, understanding and intuition through somatic and performative practices. The nine-day immersive program at different locations of the historical site Teufelsberg is dedicated to the following topics:
Performative Ethnography: we will learn about the Teufelsberg's unique history by examining the notion of legacy and by applying the ethnographic means. How can we observe, trace and collect the actions and habits of those who not only visit this popular touristic site, but also, partially, inhabit it?
Environmental Performance: we will discover the rich biodiversity of the Grunewald forest by embodying its living and non-living entities. What can we learn from the behaviour- and movement patterns of certain species and apply it to our own performance practices?
Affective Performance: we will look at the inter-relationship between the body and space through a perspective of the matter of affect. How can a body connect to a space by translating the external conditions, inner states of being, or the presence of the other into a performative language?
At the core of all these topic areas, especially through inquiring the notions of embodiment and site specificity, lies not only the exchange and collaboration between the participants, the teaching-team and the environment of Teufelsberg, but also the design of a final performance to be presented on the last day of the Lab.
