We are happy to invite you to Contemporary Butoh Meetings again, and this second meeting we host a special guest - one of the best Butoh dancers in Japan -
Her dance is called by both the spectators and critics the female incorporation of Kazuo Ohno's style... Being one of the closest students of Ohno and also working with him very closely as an assistant for 12 years, Mitsuyo Uesigi transmits the essence of Butoh of Ohno's lineage.
At the meeting she will speak about her artist's path, Butoh, Kazuo Ohno.. There will be also some rare videos shown.
"The more I get older the more I realize how much mysterious is Kazuo Ohno and his world, his Universe. It is not really something to talk about in words. But more something I search... we have to search and find.
He didn't imagine that his dance could be accepted and so acclaimed by the world and when it started to happen and he became famous - that was when I met him, so I was very glad to be there in that moment and to share his joy. He was really happy that the people loved his dance, and this joy is something still living in me, and I carry it in my dance.
For Ohno, to dance was not just dance by the body. But dancing with other " tasha" - other beings, not just himself, but also people that are gone, dead, and not only people but also animals, plants, etc...
In my dance I meet him, I meet the whole Universe."
